Travelling as a vegan can be really difficult, especially if you’re travelling with other non-vegans. So I have compiled a list of my ten favourite places to eat in Manhattan that the whole group will love. This list includes completely vegan restaurants, restaurants with vegan options, and snack spots. I hope this helps you if you’re ever in New York!

1. Raíz NYC

Raíz NYC is a completely vegan Mexican restaurant in downtown Manhattan. They have everything from tacos to salads to vegan gelato. My personal favourite is the “Can’t believe it's Birria” taco.

2. Fat Choy

Fat Choy is a vegan Chinese restaurant, it's super quick and super delicious. Definitely not the most authentic Chinese but so tasty. My favourites are the rice rolls and the smashed cucumber salad. While this restaurant is completely vegan your non-vegan friends definitely won’t miss the meat.

3. Beyond Sushi

Beyond Sushi is a vegan sushi restaurant with multiple locations, they focus on serving dishes packed full of fresh, whole ingredients. My personal favourites are the rainbow roll and the yuzu heart salad.

4. Spicy Moon

Spicy Moon is a 100% vegan Szechuan restaurant, with delicious noodles, stir frys and more. My favourite dish is the dan dan noodles, always a classic. They have a location in the West Village and in the East Village. It is perfect for large groups and has a lively atmosphere.

5. Kame

Kame is a ramen restaurant with an extensive vegan menu. They have multiple vegan ramens, vegan gyoza, salads and more. My favourites were the spicy vegan miso ramen and the shishito peppers. I went with my family, who are not vegan, and they loved their ramens as well.

$$$$

6. The Butcher’s Daughter

The Butcher’s Daughter is a ‘plant-based’ restaurant with a mix of vegan and vegetarian dishes. They have great brunch and the locations are all really clean and pretty so it is a great overall experience. My personal favourite is the healing harvest bowl and the hot golden elixir.

7. Beatnic (formerly ByChloe)

Beatnic is a vegan ‘fast food’ restaurant with locations all over the city. They specialise in making classic ‘fast food’ and ‘comfort food’ dishes vegan. My personal favourites are the quinoa taco salad and the mac and cheese.

8. Sweetgreen

Sweetgreen is a salad chain with locations all over the city. You can order one of their signature salads or create your own. It’s quick, healthy and affordable. They offer both vegan and non-vegan ingredients so everyone can enjoy a salad just how they like it. My personal favourites are the pesto vinaigrette and the spicy broccoli.

$$$$

9. Joe’s Steam Rice Roll

Joe’s steam rice roll is a cantonese style cheong fung restaurant and is my absolute favourite cheong fung in the city. You can choose whatever fillings you want, vegetable options for the vegans, and whatever sauce you want. They don’t actually mark the vegetable rice roll as vegan so if you are very strict this might not be the place for you, however, after talking to some staff I believe that it is in fact vegan. At $4 for one rice roll it is a super affordable spot in Manhattan. They also have a location in Queens, but my favourite one is in Canal Street Market.

$$$$

10. Pressed

Pressed is a juice chain all over the city with smoothies, juices, wellness shots and more. However, the real star of the show is their plant based soft serve. They have a variety of flavours and toppings and they are all delicious. My personal favourite is the vanilla freeze with chocolate chips and fresh strawberries. Not all locations have it though, so make sure to check on their website beforehand.
